Gordon plans to campaign in Glenrothes

Guido has a copy of a letter from Gordon Brown to his Labour MPs and Peers asking them to campaign in the Glenrothes constituency.

The Glenrothes by-election is hugely important and a Labour defeat despite a 10,000+ majority would bring Gordon's 'bounce' crashing back to earth.

Interestingly, the letter reveals that he plans to campaign in the constituency in what would be a break in precedence - PM's don't campaign personally in by-elections. It shows that Brown is obviously feeling much more confident after his 'Gordon saves the world' routine he has performed during the current financial crisis.

However, Brown has given himself and his proposed visit a get-out-clause in his letter saying it is "subject to the global financial situation." In other words, 'McCavity Brown' might still do a disappearing act if his bounce subsides and he no longer feels a visit to the constituency is in his political interest!!!
