It has been reported today that the government has finally listened to common sense and has eased the restrictions on the use of mobile phones in hospitals. Health Minister Ben Bradshaw said patients wanted access to their phones. “Close support and comfort from loved ones when you are poorly in hospital is essential. Mobile phones are commonplace in everyday life these days and people have told us that they'd like to be able to use their phones more in hospital to keep in touch,” he said.
This all sounds innocuous except that rumour has it the reason Bradshaw took the decision was that his nephew apparently got all pissed off because he couldn't use his phone in hospital to text! Bless him.
While on the subject of Bradshaw's nephew, word is there is a photo circulating round Westminster taken with a camera phone showing him smoking something he ought not to. Whatever would the Health Minister say?!
