Hugo Young on Gordon Brown

I have just been reading extracts from a new book of private papers written by Hugo Young, the late Guardian columnist, when I came across some of his thoughts about Gordon Brown:
December 6, 2001 - "He makes efforts to be 'human'. There's a certain loud hail-fellow approach as he walks in, but then he forgets he has done it to one person and does it again to the same person. It is rather hollow, even though well meant. He just does not know how to distract himself from the problems of state and come down to the level of humanity. Even so, though, he has a sense of humour. He can see the point of jokes. He can laugh, though seldom at himself."
I think it's fair to say Hugo Young had got Brown's number! Seven years later, Brown still isn't any more human! At uni Brown should have spent more time practicing interacting with people and less time with his head in books (the opposite to most students!)
It's too late now, we just have to put up with our gauche, psychologically flawed Prime Minister... until the next general election, that is!
